6 Self-Care Tips To Keep Busy Students Inspired
When you are so focused on studying, you tend to spend most of the day and night until you are satisfied with how far you have come. It’s easy to neglect our mental health in that situation because you feel like it’s something that can wait. However, this can lead to burnout and depression. It’s easier to rip off a plant when it’s starting to grow but once it gets bigger, the roots become stronger and harder to pull out. The same goes for your mental health, make it a priority by using the following ideas… 1. Add A Self-Care Activity to Your To-Do List Whether you are one of those people who create daily, weekly or monthly to-do lists – you need to add a ‘self-care’ activity or two on the list. You do not even have to spend money. Simply dedicate 20-30 minutes a day to listening to soothing music, watching your favorite sitcom, playing a video game, or taking a nap. Incorporating a self-care activity in your to-do list reminds you to take care of yourself and make yourself a priority alongside schoolwork. 2. Head To Bed and Sleep Speaking of which, sleeping is self-care. Yes, we all absolutely have to sleep everyday but sometimes we mess up our sleep cycles and it’s more common if you are studying because sometimes you lose track of time. Make sure to set an alarm or timer for studying and once it goes off, finish off the sentence you are reading and head straight to bed. Getting a good amount of sleep also helps with memory and productivity. 3. Have a 5-minute Self-check in You do not necessarily have to set a timer for this but at some point, during the day, find a moment to step back and reflect. Ask yourself simple questions like, how are you doing/feeling today? What has been on your mind lately? What’s making you happy? Why are you feeling physically drained? What are you looking forward to? You could either ask yourself the same questions every time or switch it up – whatever feels right and natural to you. This is to keep yourself in check and aligned with your goals. 4. Be Mindful in Your Daily Activities What this simply means is pay attention, close attention, to every little thing that you do daily. When you eat, eat without distractions, focus on your food. Look at your food, notice the texture of it in your mouth. Is it healthy or unhealthy? This is not an opportunity for you to judge yourself, just genuinely answer – that’s being mindful. You can also practice this when you are washing dishes, walking to take out the trash or when you are having a mental block while studying.
