Direction Over Speed

Remember that time you got lost? And you took what you thought was the right road? And you drove a bit faster so could recover the lost time? Only to later discover you had taken the wrong road AGAIN? And you realized that the added speed had merely taken you farther out of your way? That’s the nature of being on the wrong road. The faster you travel on the wrong road, the farther you travel in the wrong direction. So is the point to travel slower, just in case you’re on the wrong road? No, that’s not the point. Because if you’re on the right road, traveling slower is not helpful. So is the point to travel faster, just in case you’re on the right road? No, that’s not the point either. We’ve already seen that should you be on the wrong road, traveling faster is counterproductive. So what IS the point? The point is expressed in the quotation itself: “Your direction is more important than your speed.” Some people think that speed is the all-important factor. It’s really not. The more important factor is DIRECTION. Because if you’re traveling in the right direction, sooner or later your destination will be reached. Which IS the point. After all, what good is it to arrive at the wrong destination QUICKER? What consolation is it to say, “Well, I may not be at the right place, but I sure made good time”! Nonsense. The goal is to arrive at the right place—even if it takes longer than expected. Direction is so much more important than speed. Don't rush through life without a clear purpose! Speed may get you there fast, but direction ensures you arrive at the RIGHT destination. Take time to reflect on your goals, define your values, and chart your course. You'll reach your dreams with intention, not just momentum. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. Clarity beats chaos, and purpose prevails over pace. As Zig Ziglar once said, "You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great." Take five minutes today to review your goals and direction. Ask yourself: What's my purpose?
